Lovely works, but of course trivial, as they are apolitical and challenge nothing. Formal values, yes, but art has moved past that--so far past it that it has become something else, and frankly, the least it could do is find another name for itself that is both more fitting and more honest.
Credit where it's due, the MFA actually got this one mostly right, staying out of the canards of relevance and putting up a good-looking display of good-looking art.
Perhaps I have become too cynical, albeit not without justification, but I seriously wonder if this exhibit would have happened if the printmakers had all been heterosexual men.
