Berliner is Jewish and may well be considered to fit a new woke term I recently learned of, "Ashkenormativity." Columbia University's school of social work orientation glossary defines “Ashkenormativity” as a “system of oppression that favors white Jewish folx.” I'm not making that up.
Shrayer's piece put me in mind of Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas, who being openly gay and anti-totalitarian went into exile in the US. At first he interested American academia, until he challenged the leftist narrative. Speaking at a university where he'd been invited, he said some uncomfortable truths; there were murmurings in the audience, and the rector intervened and told him there was no need to be disrespectful. Arenas turned to him, smiling, and said, "I have not come here to be respectful."
Berliner has "resigned" from NPR after being suspended by its new CEO, one Katherine Maher, who might as well be a caricature rather than a real person. In other words, NPR cannot handle the truth.

Beautiful Elisabeth Condon picture cuts through all the bs

And by the way, Berliner's colleagues at NPR and the rest of the media are not exactly supporting him.
