So Franklin, which bodhisattva do you think is represented by the statue in that Joan Hanley painting? It is not a typical bodhisattva image, but it does fit a certain one.

More like an avid dabbler, but I do have an interest in Buddhist iconography (as well as other iconographies). I think the statue fits Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha), normally represented in the guise of a Buddhist monk, as opposed to the more customary crowned and bejeweled bodhisattva appearance.

At the risk of being considered hopelessly out of it (not that I care), my current earworm is a rendition of a Handel aria (written for a castrato voice) by the German countertenor Andreas Scholl:

I am not acquainted with the work of Howard Chandler Christy, but his painting of the Constitutional Convention strikes me as rather less of glorified illustration than the work of John Currin.

As to that MLK statue, I can see it as part of a marketing campaign, for which the work is apt and in which context it may be considered successful. Of course, the same could be said of the work of Britto.
