In that case you should definitely take Koo's class, or at least get her book. She can paint like that.

I’ve always been interested in egg tempera- can you say more about this? I’m assuming you made it yourself.

I did. The first thing to know is that my neighbor in Antrim, Koo Schadler, is a world authority on the medium and you should take one of her classes to learn the right way:

https://kooschadler.com/workshops.htm

If you're going to use it my way, which is basically like poster paint, it's adequate to:

1. Separate the yolk, drain the sac into a half teaspoon of water (you can find videos on how to do this), and swirl together; this is your medium.

2. Use a palette knife to mash together a small amount of dry pigment with a roughly equal amount of water to make a paste, then add the medium in roughly equal amount to the paste to make paint.

It applies to absorbent surfaces, watercolor paper being the most convenient. Gouache rules apply - don't impasto with it and try to go light to dark even though it has a little more coverage than gouache.

It's a really nice medium, and it's also really cheap. Robert Vickery says in his book that his accountant complains that he doesn't spend enough money on art supplies.
