I’ve been wondering for a while how my recent work would translate to sculpture. I had an opportunity to find out because one of the Manang Residency artists built a pit kiln, various states of which are pictured in the gallery below. Apologies for the rawness of the photos and the lack of chronological order; there’s not a lot of bandwidth here in Ngawal.

So cool! And the answer as to translation if your 2D art to 3D is: very well indeed! I take it that whatever clay being fired here is decidedly "low-fire" material. That pit kiln can't be nearly as hot as a traditional kiln would be, right? Loving the accounts of your time spent in the field.
