The topic of our next round of Asynchronous Studio Book Club is Totality: Abstraction and Meaning in the Art of Barnett Newman by Michael Schreyach. I will post about its first chapter, “Symbol,” during the week of September 11. This should lend ample time to obtain a copy, even directly from the publisher, and give me half a chance of getting through Pollock’s Modernism, also by the author, in the meantime. Professor Schreyach is a reader of Dissident Muse Journal and I hope that he can be enticed to chime in periodically, if only to correct me, which will likely be necessary. This is a profoundly erudite, consummately researched book, and we’ll be taking its six chapters one week at a time.
Content at DMJ is free but paid subscriptions keep it coming. Please consider one for yourself and thank you for reading.
