Aphorisms for Artists at Allworth
Major announcement: 'Aphorisms for Artists: 100 Ways Toward Better Art' by Walter Darby Bannard is a forthcoming title at Allworth Press.
I’m excited to announce that the next edition of Aphorisms for Artists: 100 Ways Toward Better Art, written by Walter Darby Bannard and edited by yours truly, is a forthcoming title at Allworth Press, slated to appear in their Spring 2024 releases. Behold the new cover in its glory.
Its appearance at Allworth puts the book in estimable company. I note in particular How to Survive and Prosper as an Artist: Selling Yourself without Selling Your Soul by Caroll Michels, which remains the best book of its kind and the first one that any artist in need of guidance should acquire. Allworth founder Tad Crawford has written extensively about business practices for artists, including the inimatably authoritative Legal Guide for the Visual Artist. Allworth has been a pleasure to work with and they genuinely grasp the import and merit of Darby’s wisdom.
I just opened my copy of the first edition, which is now a collector’s item, to this: “True art making is making art as good as you can make it. Don’t let anything mess with that.” It’s time for Darby’s hard-hitting insights to be re-introduced to the wider world, and soon they will be.
Congratulations Franklin, excellent news!
Darby was too smart for the system, and these days lots of people are not interested in making better art as such, but rather observing the prevailing fashion and following PC directives.
